There are a lot of bills introduced in the State House and State Senate every year that can have huge affects on our community. Before they can become laws they have to go through multiple rounds of voting. If we let lawmakers know just how bad or good a bill is as it goes through their committees, then they may stop or amend it. That’s the hope. Here are a few tips on how to make that hope a reality:
- You should always use BCC if emailing more than one address at a time
- You should always include a Bill number (SB# / HB#) in the subject line
- Do NOT include your address or phone number unless you live in the district of the legislator that you are contacting
- You should not email more than 10 addresses at a time (it will be marked as spam)
- Start with State Senators before House Members (since there are far fewer)
- Reach out to BOTH Republicans and Democrats)
