Veterans Day Statement

Brandon Nelson, President of the Rainbow Democrats caucus issued the following statement on Veteran’s Day:

“As we take a moment to thank our Veterans and current service members for their tireless commitment to service to our country, we want to especially thank LGBTQ+ veterans and service members who served with honor and distinction, even under the most archaic law of ‘Don’t ask, Don’t tell’.

The Obama administration sought to ensure that our veterans and current service members were able to be true to themselves while serving this nation. Unfortunately, since the inception of the Trump administration, the rights of our transgender service members have been under attack. We must continue to fight to ensure that not even our veterans and active service members do not face the threat of discrimination for being who they are. We must remain fully committed to ensuring our march toward a more perfect union, and that includes treating our transgender active duty-service members and veterans with dignity and respect.”
