The Rainbow Democrats have had some changes in its board of directors. Brandon Nelson has resigned as President, effective immediately, and Matthew Inman, Vice President, will be immediately assuming the role of President. Please see their statements below.

Brandon Nelson Statement

I have made the difficult decision to resign as President of the Rainbow Democrats. I am doing so to focus on advancing my career path with my employer, Universal Orlando. To take more time for me, personally and professionally, I will also focus on maintaining my physical and mental health. I see this as an opportunity to recalibrate my focus towards my career and personal goals and shift focus to my overall well-being.

I have determined that the time has come for me to step aside and allow others to lead this great organization. The current Vice President, Matthew Inman, will immediately assume the role of chapter President. I have the utmost confidence that Matthew will be able to lead our caucus chapter into the 2022 midterms and will continue to cultivate coalitions and partnerships that will last past the midterms and the next presidential election cycle. Much like when presidential administrations ensure a peaceful transition of power, so too will be my transition away from this leadership position.

While I am resigning as the chapter President of the Rainbow Democrats, I will remain as the Regional Director for Region 4 of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus. I will continue to perform the duties entrusted to me in that position until the end of my term or until I can no longer execute those duties. In addition to this resignation, I have also tendered my resignation as Precinct Committeeman of the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee (OCDEC – Orange County Democrats), an organization that I’ve been deeply involved with for nearly a decade. Even though I am slowly decreasing my decades-long involvement in local politics, I remain committed to the goals and ideals of the Rainbow Democrats and that of the Democratic Party.

In closing, it is ok to take time for yourself and reset. I need my fellow grassroots advocates to hear this (louder for the stubborn ones like myself in the back!). After all, what good are you to the fight if you’re experiencing fatigue and burnout from constantly fighting every day’s uphill battles?

Matthew Inman Statement

Hello Rainbow Democrats members, supporters, and followers.

I want to thank Brandon Nelson for his service to this organization. Brandon and I worked very hard to get this caucus up and running with the help of several others back in 2019. Especially during such a crucial time in our history. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

As President, I plan to formulate the organization’s short and long-term goals with the help of my fellow Board of Directors. Establishing these will help us create a game plan for our current board as well as for future boards to make the handoff smoother. Please be on the lookout for exciting announcements as we approach the new year.

Additionally, I am excited to share that we will participate in this year’s Come Out With Pride celebration as we have secured a booth and a spot in the parade. If you are interested in working our booth and/or walking in the parade, please complete our Volunteer Sign-Up Form.

If you have any questions, comments, and/or ideas, please contact me at president@rainbowdemocrats.org.
