ORLANDO, FL – Rainbow Democrats President Brandon Nelson issued the following statement on the passing of John Lewis:
“The world lost a civil rights icon last night. We are deeply indebted to your servitude and commitment to equal rights for all. You taught us that the right to vote is a sacred right that should be given to all Americans and should not be taken for granted. We will honor your legacy and the legacy of your colleague Elijah Cummings and other civil rights legends who have left us by not letting up on the commitment to never stop fighting for what is right and get into good trouble. Rest in peace John Lewis.”
Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.
